Public Scoping Initiated for Davao City Waste-to-Energy Project Amid Opposition
DENR EMB-Davao has commenced public scoping for the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) project, emphasizing its non-approval nature. Stakeholders, including NGOs and local communities, are encouraged to voice concerns, particularly regarding environmental impacts and alignment with circular economy goals.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau-Davao Region (DENR EMB-Davao) announced the initiation of public scoping for the proposed Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Project. This process is a preliminary step in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and aims to engage stakeholders, community members, and advocacy groups to raise environmental concerns.
Notably, public opposition from the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (Idis) highlights risks of misalignment with circular economy initiatives. The local government is reviewing financial projections for the project, which is supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and aims to address waste management issues in Davao City. The outcome of public scoping may significantly influence project approval and future waste management strategies.
