Puerto Rico Governor Signs Laws to Honor Veterans and Recognize Space Force

Governor Jenniffer González Colón has signed two new laws aimed at enhancing respect for military members. The first, Project 299, now Law 6-2026, establishes the 'Law for the Recognition of Military Prisoners of War and Missing in Action.'
This law mandates the display of the POW/MIA flag at specific public government buildings in Puerto Rico and declares the third Friday of September as 'POW/MIA Recognition Day,' aligning with national observances. The second law, Project 781, now Law 7-2026, amends the 2010 Professional Combatant Law to recognize the Space Force as a new branch of the Armed Forces, extending benefits to its members for humanitarian missions and peacekeeping operations. Both measures were supported by various representatives.
