Pupuk Indonesia Plans Fertilizer Factory in West Papua with Estimated Cost of $1.7 Billion

Pupuk Indonesia, mandated by the government, is developing a fertilizer industrial zone in West Papua, appointing its subsidiary Pupuk Kaltim for execution. The project site in Tomage District will involve a factory producing 825,000 tons of ammonia and 1.15 million tons of urea annually, with an estimated cost of Rp28.4 trillion.

Construction in Fior is set to start in Q2 2024, with operations expected in 2027. The project has shifted locations from Teluk Bintuni to Fior and Andamata villages, following a groundbreaking ceremony led by President Joko Widodo on November 23, 2023.
