Pure Data Centres Group to Build New Datacenter in Amsterdam Amid Local Opposition
Pure Data Centres Group is set to invest €1 billion in a new datacenter in Amsterdam's Westpoort area, comprising three 85-meter towers, despite local opposition and the city’s policy to pause new datacenter developments until 2035. The project has already secured necessary permits and is fully leased, while concerns from residents about nearby datacenter constructions have prompted local government requests to halt development, which the province has deemed legally ungrounded.

Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) plans to construct a new datacenter in the Westpoort area of Amsterdam, investing €1 billion in the project, which will consist of three 85-meter towers, each housing 26 MW of data halls. The site is already fully leased and has secured necessary permits.
This decision contradicts Amsterdam's policy to halt new datacenter developments until 2035, except for projects initiated before December 28, 2023. Meanwhile, Goodman Group is developing another datacenter in Vijfhuizen, part of a €2.2 billion investment in Europe, including sites in Amsterdam.
Local opposition has emerged against two datacenters by EdgeConneX in Haarlemmermeer, with residents voicing concerns over construction near their community. The local government has requested the province to halt construction, but the province has found no legal basis to do so.
