Pure DC's New Data Center in Westpoort to Consume Significant Water and Electricity Resources
The Pure DC data center in Westpoort is expected to utilize approximately 420,000 cubic meters of industrial water annually for cooling. This raises concerns about the impact on local electricity capacity, as it will be the largest data center in Amsterdam and primarily serve Microsoft, limiting benefits for local businesses.

The data center being constructed by Pure DC in Westpoort will require about 420,000 cubic meters of industrial water yearly, equivalent to over three Olympic swimming pools per week. The center, which has Microsoft as its sole tenant, is anticipated to significantly draw on the already strained electricity grid.
Waternet, the supplier of industrial water, states that the center's water demand is manageable, with current supplies sufficient for its needs. However, concerns linger regarding water scarcity during summer months when cooling needs peak.
The facility aims to utilize waste heat for local heating networks, potentially enhancing energy efficiency. Questions remain about whether the center will implement the latest cooling technologies to minimize resource consumption.
