PWA Planning Secures Approval for 400MWh Battery Storage Project in West Lancashire
PWA Planning has received approval for a 400MWh battery storage project on the former Avondale Nursery site in West Lancashire, despite objections from Lathom Parish Council regarding its Green Belt location. The facility, which will consist of 66 battery containers and connect at 85MW, aims to enhance the electricity network's resilience and facilitate renewable energy integration, while also contributing to local job creation and ecological improvements. The project is expected to operate for 40 years before decommissioning.

PWA Planning has launched plans for a 400MWh battery storage system for Sandbrook Capital BES Ltd on the former Avondale Nursery site in West Lancashire. The project received committee approval despite objections from Lathom Parish Council regarding its location on Green Belt land.
The system will connect at 85MW (170MWh) and aims to enhance the electricity network's resilience while facilitating renewable energy integration. It will consist of 66 battery containers within a secure compound.
The West Lancashire Borough Council determined that the benefits of energy storage justify the development on Green Belt land, considering local job creation and ecological enhancements. The facility is expected to operate for 40 years before decommissioning.
