QTS Expands York County Data Center Footprint with $26M Land Purchase

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

QTS Data Centers has purchased an additional 400 acres in York County for approximately $26 million, expanding its planned data center site to 791 acres near Hands Mill Highway and Campbell Road. The company aims to accommodate future growth and will engage with local residents regarding their billion-dollar investment.

A public meeting is anticipated in February. The data center will house e-commerce and media services, while QTS assures that its cooling system will minimize water usage, despite community concerns about environmental impact and increased utility costs.

Residents have expressed worries about the height of the facility, which may reach up to 80 feet, exceeding the county's previous height limit of 60 feet. This project is part of a broader trend in South Carolina, where large data centers are being proposed, such as a 859-acre campus in Colleton County.
