Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission Approves 1,000 MW Battery Storage Project

The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission approved tariffs for a 1,000 MW, 2,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in Rajasthan to enhance grid stability amid increasing renewable energy. Developed by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd., the project will follow a Build-Own-Operate model with long-term agreements.

Viability Gap Funding of ₹18 lakh per MWh is provided by the Ministry of Power. The tender issued in June 2025 attracted 50 bidders, with 11 selected after an e-Reverse Auction, securing tariffs between ₹1,77,500 and ₹1,78,500 per MW per month.

Successful bidders include Stockwell Solar Services, Oswal Cable, and Patanjali Renewable Energy, among others. RVUNL will sign Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements to supply power to distribution companies.
