Ransom Township Officials Reject Zoning Amendment for Proposed Data Center
Ransom Township officials in Pennsylvania have rejected a zoning amendment for a proposed data center by Scranton Materials, citing an incomplete application. The decision, supported by local residents concerned about environmental impacts and resource usage, was made with a two-to-one vote against the proposal. It remains uncertain if Scranton Materials will attempt to submit a new application.

Local officials in Ransom Township, Pennsylvania, rejected a zoning amendment that would have allowed a data center project proposed by Scranton Materials. The amendment aimed to add a zoning overlay for a six-building data center on a 251-acre quarry at 819 Newton Road.
Officials stated that the application was incomplete and lacked necessary information. The proposed 'Data Center Overlay Zoning District' would have included regulations on noise, utility usage, and size.
The decision was supported by citizens attending the meeting, with township supervisors voting two to one against the proposal. Opposition from residents has been strong, citing concerns over water and electricity usage, environmental impact, and procedural issues. It is currently unclear if Scranton Materials will submit a new application.
