Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Resumes 68 MW Supply After July 2025 Flood Damage

HYDRO POWER

The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, Nepal, has resumed operations at 61% capacity following flood damage from the Bhotekoshi River in July 2025. The project has reconnected 68 MW to the national grid and recently increased generation by 31 MW.

Initially, it began producing 37 MW after a five-month shutdown. The total capacity of the project is 111 MW, with plans to reach the remaining 43 MW by June 2026. The hydropower facility, operated by Chilime Hydropower Company and NEA, was severely impacted by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, which damaged infrastructure and swept away equipment.

Currently, two of the three damaged turbines are repaired, and maintenance on the canal and dam is complete. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 613.87 million units of electricity annually, yielding approximately Rs 3.25 billion in revenue.
