Raytheon Secures SeaRAM Contract for Australian Frigates Under Project SEA3000
Raytheon will supply SeaRAM systems for Australia's Improved Mogami-class frigates, enhancing naval defense capabilities. The contract includes launchers, vehicles, and testing services, with deliveries starting in late 2028.
Raytheon has been awarded a contract by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to provide SeaRAM ship self-defense systems for Australia’s SEA3000 program, aimed at replacing the aging Anzac-class frigates with 11 Improved Mogami-class frigates. Deliveries of SeaRAM launchers and support services are expected to commence in late 2028.
This system combines the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System with the Rolling Airframe Missile, enhancing defense against advanced airborne threats. The procurement is critical as Australia adapts its defense posture to counter regional threats, including Chinese naval expansion and North Korean missile development. The upgrade will ensure the Royal Australian Navy maintains effective defense capabilities in a changing strategic landscape.
