Recall Effort Launched Against All Seven Augusta Township Officials Over Data Center Proposal

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

A recall effort has been initiated by resident Wendy Albers against all seven elected officials in Augusta Township, Michigan, following their unanimous vote to rezone 522 acres for a data center proposed by Thor Equities. The Washtenaw County election commission approved the petition language on February 11.

Albers seeks to gather 941 signatures from registered voters to place the recall on the November ballot. The rezoning vote is scheduled for August 4. If the officials do not appeal the petition wording within 10 days, residents can begin collecting signatures. The township board's final vote to approve the rezoning is set for July 22, 2025.
