Key recommendations include halting new mining permits, designating the area as a no-go zone, and ensuring Indigenous rights and environmental safeguards are upheld.

Global Witness has identified critical actions necessary to protect Raja Ampat from nickel mining activities. Recommendations include suspending all mining permits in West Papua, designating Raja Ampat as a no-go zone, and ensuring Indigenous territories are recognized.
Existing mining operations must minimize pollution, and companies should be held accountable for environmental violations. It is also advised that EV manufacturers audit their supply chains and cease sourcing nickel from Raja Ampat to align with human rights and environmental standards. The EU and G7 are encouraged to incorporate Indonesia's regulatory framework when considering investments, emphasizing the need for transparency and Indigenous community engagement in mining practices.
