Italian energy company Redelfi S.p.A has entered a joint venture with WRM Group to develop four data centers in Italy. This partnership aims to enhance the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) with data centers, which can help reduce energy costs and improve grid stability.
The joint venture will establish a new entity under Italian law, with Redelfi owning 51% and managing the sites. The agreement includes provisions for compensation to Redelfi upon achieving specific development milestones for each project.
This marks Redelfi's first venture into the data center sector, following a prior collaboration with WRM Group's subsidiary Flash to create 'Bright Storage,' focused on standalone BESS. The global market for BESS is projected to reach $150 billion by 2030.
