Redondo Beach City Council Approves Consultant Contracts for Police Gun Range Funding Efforts
Redondo Beach City Council approved two consultant contracts, each up to $100,000, to pursue federal funding for a proposed $19 million police gun range. Despite a prior denial, feedback indicated the city was close to receiving funds. The project aims to address quality of life concerns linked to the existing open-air range. The council voted 5-0 in favor of hiring the consultants for design and environmental planning. City Manager Mike Witzansky noted the investment could lead to significant federal funding.

Redondo Beach City Council has approved two consultant contracts, each for up to $100,000, to seek federal funding for a $19 million police gun range. The previous funding attempt was denied, but feedback suggested the city was close to approval.
The project is intended to mitigate noise issues from the existing 1947 open-air shooting range and would be a shared facility with Los Angeles Air Force Base. The council's 5-0 vote supports hiring McClaren, Wilson and Lawrie for design services and Geosyntec Consultants for environmental planning.
City Manager Witzansky stated the city could invest $100,000-$150,000 to secure the potential $19 million funding. In 2024, a council vote authorized $545,000 in capital improvement funds for project design.
