Reinova Launches Italy's First Integrated Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Hub
Reinova, in collaboration with A&C Ecotech and BTS & Saker, has launched Italy's first integrated lithium-ion battery recycling hub in Soliera, Modena, aimed at managing the lifecycle of large batteries, especially those from electric vehicles and data centers. Although the facility is operational, Italy is working to align its legislation with the EU's 2023 battery recycling directive, which includes new requirements for hazardous waste management. Reinova plans to expand its initiative by creating additional micro-hubs across Italy and Europe, with a goal to replicate its Polish facility by 2028-2029.

Reinova, alongside A&C Ecotech and BTS & Saker, has established Italy's first integrated industrial hub for recycling lithium-ion batteries in Soliera, Modena. This facility is designed to manage the entire lifecycle of large batteries, particularly those used in electric vehicles and data centers.
However, Italy has yet to adopt European regulations necessary for processing Black Mass, a critical output from recycling. As of January 2026, Italy is working to align its national legislation with the new EU directive on battery recycling (2023/1542), which introduces extensive requirements.
Future obligations will include a unified framework for battery lifecycle management and stricter handling of hazardous waste. Reinova aims to create additional micro-hubs across Italy and Europe, with plans to replicate its Polish facility by 2028-2029, focused on recycling industrial batteries, particularly NMC and LFP types.
