Reno Planning Commission Approves 200-Megawatt Trego Grid Battery Storage Project
The Reno Planning Commission has recommended approval for the Trego Grid battery storage facility, a 200-megawatt lithium-ion system located in south Reno. This project will connect to NV Energy's Mira Loma substation and is designed to help manage electricity demand during peak usage. Local residents expressed concerns about fire risks, but the project complies with fire safety standards. The facility is supported by a local professor who emphasizes the need for renewable energy solutions in the rapidly warming city.

The Reno Planning Commission recommended approval for the Trego Grid battery storage project, a 200-megawatt lithium-ion system in south Reno, on March 4. The facility will connect to NV Energy's Mira Loma substation and address peak electricity demands.
Residents raised fire safety concerns, but the project meets all fire standards. The developer introduced new technologies to mitigate fire risks, including automatic shut-off systems and cooling methods. The City Council will review plans for annexing additional land, and the project will also be evaluated by the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission.
