Residents Oppose Proposed R&L Capital Data Center in Inyokern, California
Inyokern residents express concerns over the environmental and water impacts of a proposed AI-driven data center. The project, projected to consume significant water and energy, is under review by the California Energy Commission.

The proposed RB Inyokern Data Center by R&L Capital, Inc. seeks to establish a facility covering approximately 50 acres, with a projected footprint of nearly 240,000 square feet. The data center would utilize 50 acre-feet of water annually and feature 40 diesel generators generating up to 99 megawatts of energy.
Local residents highlight potential negative impacts on the critically overdrafted Indian Wells Valley groundwater basin, expressing concerns about water supply, environmental degradation, and quality of life. The project could create over 1,600 construction jobs and generate $6 million annually in tax revenue, but faces significant opposition regarding its sustainability.
