Rhinebeck Planning Board Halts Review of Rhinebeck Villas Due to DEC Wastewater Concerns
The Rhinebeck Planning Board has suspended its review of the Rhinebeck Villas hotel project following concerns from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) regarding the wastewater discharge plan. The DEC found that the project has not demonstrated a continuous stream channel necessary for permitting, which is needed for state approval. The hotel aims to construct a wastewater treatment plant discharging into a tributary of the Rhinebeck Kill, vital for receiving the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

The Rhinebeck Planning Board has paused the review of the Rhinebeck Villas hotel development due to a wastewater discharge issue flagged by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The DEC stated that the project failed to show a continuous stream channel linking the discharge point to the Rhinebeck Kill tributary, which is necessary for obtaining a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
The 60-room hotel intends to build an onsite wastewater treatment plant. The project's engineer has submitted additional documentation to address DEC's concerns, including an alternative discharge point. The Planning Board cannot proceed without adequate information on the wastewater plan's impact on local water bodies.
