Rikon Delivers Automated Cranes to Madrid-Vicálvaro Intermodal Terminal Enhancing Freight Capacity
Latvian firm JSC Rikon has completed the delivery of three automated rail mounted gantry (A-RMG) cranes to the Madrid-Vicálvaro Intermodal Terminal, marking a significant advancement in European logistics. The €300 million terminal is set to handle 150,000 intermodal units annually, enhancing the transfer of goods between road and rail. This project builds on Rikon's previous installations in Spain and positions Madrid as a key logistics hub connecting Atlantic and Mediterranean rail corridors.

JSC Rikon has delivered three automated rail mounted gantry (A-RMG) cranes to the Madrid-Vicálvaro Intermodal Terminal, enhancing central Spain's freight capacity. This delivery concludes the equipment supply for ADIF, Spain's railway infrastructure manager, and signifies a shift towards automation in European logistics.
The terminal, with an investment exceeding €300 million, aims to handle around 150,000 intermodal units annually. The A-RMG cranes, featuring a 40-tonne lifting capacity, will improve the efficiency of container transfers between rail and road. This project follows Rikon's previous work in Spain and reinforces Madrid's role in multimodal transportation by linking key ports and inland destinations.
