RINA and Hanwha Sign MOU for Battery-Hybrid Propulsion Systems in Maritime Sector
RINA has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with Hanwha Group to promote battery-hybrid propulsion in maritime transport. This partnership focuses on developing low-emission vessels, particularly in the Ro-Ro ferry segment, utilizing advanced technologies and regulatory expertise.

RINA and Hanwha Group, through affiliates Hanwha Power, Hanwha Aerospace, and Hanwha Engine, signed an MOU aimed at advancing battery-hybrid propulsion systems in maritime transport. The collaboration seeks to transition from traditional propulsion to low-emission solutions for both new vessels and retrofitting existing ones.
Hanwha Power will lead integration efforts, focusing on ship design and system interfaces, while Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Engine will contribute energy storage and engine optimization technologies. RINA will ensure regulatory compliance and assist in market analysis for the ferry sector. The partnership may enhance the competitive landscape in eco-friendly vessel technology, potentially influencing future maritime regulations.
