RINA Grants AiP to ST Engineering for Hydrogen Retrofit on Asean Raider I Ferry
RINA has issued an Approval in Principle for ST Engineering's hydrogen fuel cell retrofit on the Asean Raider I ferry. This initiative aims to reduce emissions and enhance safety in maritime operations.

RINA has granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to ST Engineering Marine for a hydrogen fuel cell retrofit on the 25-metre fast passenger ferry Asean Raider I. The retrofit involves replacing one of the auxiliary diesel generators with a hydrogen fuel cell system, supported by lithium-ion batteries, to lower carbon emissions while maintaining safety and performance standards.
The assessment followed RINA's Guide for Approval in Principle for Novel Technologies and relevant international codes. This AiP was presented during Singapore Maritime Week, marking a significant step in integrating hydrogen technology into maritime operations. The successful collaboration may influence future adoption of low-emission solutions in the industry.
