Rio Grande Avenue Rehabilitation and Meta Data Center Water Usage Updates in El Paso
El Paso Water is undertaking significant infrastructure work on Rio Grande Avenue, impacting traffic until November. Concurrently, concerns regarding water usage for Meta's data center are being addressed, with assurances that demand will not negatively affect local supply.

El Paso Water's rehabilitation project on Rio Grande Avenue, Dallas Street, and Williams Street is currently in progress and is expected to conclude by November. This initiative includes replacing old water and wastewater lines, resulting in several road closures, including Rio Grande Avenue between Lee and Laurel Streets, and parts of Dallas and Williams Streets.
Detours are marked, and while residential access is maintained, street parking may be restricted. In relation to the Meta data center, El Paso Water officials confirmed its projected daily water usage of 480,000 gallons, significantly lower than initial concerns.
Meta's system is designed to be water-efficient, aiming for zero water use most of the year and plans to restore water to local watersheds. Ongoing discussions between the City and El Paso Electric regarding the McCloud Generation facility aim to protect ratepayers from additional costs associated with this large customer.
