ROC Defense Minister Wellington Koo Li-hsiung Addresses Combat Power and U.S. Arms Procurement Delays
Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo Li-hsiung emphasized the importance of strengthening the ROC Armed Forces during a session at the Legislative Yuan. He acknowledged delays in U.S. arms sales, including F-16V jets and MK-48 torpedoes, but reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to enhancing defense resilience. Following the passage of the Special Act on Defense Procurement, the Ministry will submit a special budget proposal to the Legislative Yuan for review before initiating arms procurement from the U.S.

Minister Wellington Koo Li-hsiung stated that strengthening the combat power of the ROC Armed Forces is a top priority for the Ministry of National Defense. He addressed delays in U.S. arms sales, specifically mentioning F-16V fighter jets and MK-48 torpedoes, while highlighting instances of on-time or early deliveries within military procurements.
Koo outlined the process following the Legislative Yuan's passage of the Special Act on Defense Procurement, noting that a special budget proposal must be submitted for review before the U.S. provides the Letter of Offer and Acceptance. He reiterated the need to continue enhancing Taiwan's defense resilience and combat power despite some procurement delays.
