Rocket Factory Augsburg Advances UK Orbital Launch Plans for Summer 2026
Rocket Factory Augsburg has applied for a marine licence as part of its preparations for the first orbital launch from UK soil, scheduled for no earlier than July 1, 2026. This significant milestone is crucial for managing debris and ensuring safety during the launch operations from SaxaVord Spaceport in Scotland.

Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) is preparing for its inaugural launch from SaxaVord Spaceport in Scotland, with a potential launch window opening no earlier than July 1, 2026. The company has submitted an application for a marine licence to establish maritime exclusion zones for debris management.
The RFA One rocket, standing 30 meters tall, is designed to deliver a 1,300 kg payload to a sun-synchronous orbit. Following a setback in August 2024 due to a launchpad incident, RFA has manufactured a replacement first stage and is upgrading its vehicle.
Assuming successful launches, RFA anticipates up to four launches per year in the subsequent two years, while SaxaVord Spaceport aims to capitalize on global satellite launch demand. The failure of Orbex, a competitor, raises questions about the financial viability of the sector.
