Rocket Lab Acquires Motiv Space Systems to Enhance Robotics Capabilities
Rocket Lab has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Motiv Space Systems, enhancing its robotics and motion control capabilities. This acquisition supports Rocket Lab's vertical integration strategy by bringing in-house production of critical spacecraft components, expected to close in Q2 2026.
Rocket Lab Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire Motiv Space Systems, a California-based firm specializing in robotics for spacecraft. The acquisition aligns with Rocket Lab's growth trajectory, as its revenue increased by 38% to $601.8 million in the past year.
By integrating Motiv's technology, Rocket Lab aims to manufacture critical spacecraft components, including solar array drive assemblies and motion control systems, thus reducing external dependencies and production bottlenecks. Motiv's team of 50 engineers will enhance Rocket Lab's capabilities, promoting advanced solutions for lunar and planetary missions.
The acquisition is projected to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions. The move underscores Rocket Lab's strategy to consolidate its operations and strengthen its market position in the space sector.
