Rocket Lab Potentially Selected as Satellite Bus Provider for Equatys' 2,800-Satellite Constellation
Rocket Lab is speculated to be the satellite bus provider for Equatys, a joint venture aiming to deploy a 2,800-satellite LEO constellation for global connectivity. Equatys, backed by Viasat and Space42, plans to launch its infrastructure model that allows multiple operators to share resources. A $600 million investment from Space42 has been committed for initial build-out. The project aims for a technical demonstration in late 2026 and commercial rollout in 2027, with Rocket Lab’s manufacturing capabilities potentially enhancing satellite development.

Rocket Lab is emerging as a likely candidate for the satellite bus manufacturing contract for Equatys, which aims to deploy a 2,800-satellite LEO constellation. This joint venture between Viasat and Space42 focuses on providing direct connectivity to smartphones and IoT devices.
Space42 has committed $600 million for the 2026-2027 period to start the build-out. The architecture supports scalability and interoperability between terrestrial and satellite networks. A technical demonstration is targeted for late 2026, with a phased commercial rollout beginning in 2027. If selected, Rocket Lab would transition to a leading satellite provider.
