Romania Launches EMISAR Satellite Aboard SpaceX Falcon 9
The experimental satellite EMISAR is launched on March 30, 2026, marking a significant advancement for Romania's space technology sector.

On March 30, 2026, Romania's EMISAR satellite was launched via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket during the Transporter-16 mission. EMISAR, a 1U CubeSat developed entirely in Romania, aims to test a 'store-and-forward' communication system, collecting and storing messages before transmitting them to ground stations in Măgurele and Constanța.
This project, completed in under two years, showcases local technological capabilities and involves collaboration among Romanian InSpace Engineering, the Institute of Space Sciences, RARTEL, and the Maritime University of Constanța. Following its launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base, EMISAR will be positioned in a heliosynchronous orbit alongside 118 satellites from 13 countries. This mission enhances Romania's presence in space and demonstrates potential for advanced military applications.
