Rongxine Mine Expands Copper Production Capacity in Zambia
Rongxine Mine in Chambishi plans to increase copper production capacity to 10,000 metric tons annually, up from 500. The expansion will include plant renovations and an acid neutralization facility to mitigate environmental impact.

Rongxine Mine is set to enhance its copper production capacity to 10,000 metric tons per year, significantly up from the current 500 metric tons. This expansion includes the renovation of its existing facilities and the construction of a modern leach plant aimed at achieving a 95% copper recovery rate.
The project is expected to create jobs and improve livelihoods in the surrounding community, which relies on mining-related employment. Local officials, including Kalulushi MP Kampamba Mulenga and Mayor Daudi Simama, support the initiative but emphasize the need for environmental safeguards. Community concerns about pollution highlight the importance of oversight by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.
