Roswell City Council Approves 90-Day Moratorium on New Data Centers
The Roswell City Council has enacted a 90-day moratorium on new data centers to allow the Community Development Department to develop zoning and land use standards addressing utility usage and environmental impacts, particularly related to the Chattahoochee River. This decision, made during the swearing-in of new leaders, aims to ensure thoughtful public policy regarding data center development in the area. Mayor Mary Robichaux highlighted the importance of careful review during this period.

The Roswell City Council approved a 90-day moratorium on new data centers during its meeting on January 12, 2026, coinciding with the swearing-in of newly elected leaders. The moratorium will last until April 12, allowing the Community Development Department to establish zoning and land use standards focused on data centers, utility usage, and environmental impacts, particularly concerning the Chattahoochee River.
Mayor Mary Robichaux emphasized the need for patience in reviewing proposals. A report from the University of Georgia indicates that Georgia has 63 active data centers, with 35 under construction and nearly 250 announced. The moratorium aims to ensure long-term public policy considerations regarding data center development in Roswell.
