Round Rock City Council to Review Skybox Datacenters Rezoning Request for New Data Center on Feb. 12
The Round Rock City Council will review a rezoning request from Skybox Datacenters on February 12, following an initial approval on December 4. The proposal seeks to build a data center on 29 acres near A.W. Grimes Boulevard and East Old Settlers Boulevard, with plans to divide the property for various uses including a data center, substation, and open space. The center will utilize a closed-loop cooling system and is expected to generate significant property tax revenue while consuming water equivalent to 15 homes.

Grimes Boulevard and East Old Settlers Boulevard. The development will be divided into three sections for different uses, including a data center and substation. The data center will use a closed-loop cooling system requiring about 10,000 gallons of water initially, compared to traditional systems that use hundreds of thousands of gallons daily. The facility will have a footprint similar to 100 homes but is expected to generate tax revenue equivalent to 500 homes.
