Russia to Upgrade Su-30SM Fleet to Su-30SM2 Standard by 2027
The Russian Air Force plans to upgrade its fleet of approximately 110 Su-30SM fighter jets to the Su-30SM2 standard by 2027. The Su-30SM2 features advanced avionics, more powerful engines, and improved radar capabilities. Recent deliveries of the new model have been made to the Russian Naval Aviation, and upgrades will include components from the Su-35S. The Su-30SM2 is designed for multi-role missions and has been operational since late 2015, participating in the Syrian Civil War.

Russia's Su-30SM2 Flanker-H, a fourth-generation+ fighter, is set for upgrades with approximately 110 Su-30SMs to be modernized to SM2 standard by 2027. Recent deliveries of four Su-30SM2 models have been made to Russian Naval Aviation at Chernyakhovsk Naval Air Base.
The upgrade includes new AL-41F1S engines and N035 Irbis-E radar. The Su-30SM2 has been operational since 2015, engaging in the Syrian Civil War, and features advanced avionics and maneuverability. Russia currently operates around 103 Su-30SMs in the air force and 22 in the navy.
