Russia's Military Expansion and U.S. Support for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
Russia's military has grown by 25% as of July 2022, with potential troop levels reaching 2.5 million. The U.S. has allocated $175 billion to support Ukraine, which has significantly increased its military spending from $5.5 billion in 2019-2020 to $64 billion by 2023.

As of 2024, Russia has approximately 700,000 troops engaged in Ukraine, suffering an estimated 300,000 casualties. In contrast, the U.S. military aid has bolstered Ukraine's forces by over 90%. Russia's GDP stands at $2 trillion compared to Ukraine's $160 billion, allowing Russia to potentially outproduce Ukraine over time.
The conflict has seen Russia's military budget increase to $109 billion, a $45 billion rise, indicating the financial pressures of the war. The U.S. commitment may require a minimum of $50 billion annually to sustain Ukraine's defense without ensuring a clear resolution. This funding poses a challenge to U.S. taxpayers amidst uncertainties of military outcomes.
