Rwanda Partners with Kazakhstan's Tau-Ken Samruk for Mineral Exploration

Rwanda has entered into a partnership with Tau-Ken Samruk, Kazakhstan's state-owned mining company, to create a joint venture focused on mineral exploration and mining. The collaboration is anticipated to bring advanced geological technology and expertise to Rwanda, enhancing its capacity in critical minerals production.

This partnership, approved by President Paul Kagame's Cabinet, follows the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Kazakhstan, initiated by Kagame's visit in May 2025. The venture aims to position Rwanda as a key player in the global critical minerals market as countries seek reliable supplies for clean energy technologies and various industries. The agreement also reflects Rwanda's strategy to move beyond raw mineral exports to attract investment in processing and value addition.
