Rwanda's Nyakabingo Mine has successfully entered the U.S. defence supply chain, supplying tungsten via an agreement with Global Tungsten & Powders. The deal stipulates the shipment of four to seven containers of tungsten concentrate quarterly for two years.
This positions Rwanda as a credible supplier in a market dominated by China, which controls 80% of global tungsten production. Trinity Metals, which operates the mine, has modernized its facilities and implemented updated environmental assessments since May 2022.
The company employs over 6,500 workers and maintains strict compliance with international standards. Future plans include seeking US$60 million to establish a tungsten processing plant to enhance recovery rates and add value to exports.
