SADC Workshop in Lusaka Validates Just Energy Transition Framework
Energy experts from Southern Africa met in Lusaka for a three-day workshop to validate the SADC Just Energy Transition framework. SADC Executive Secretary Elias Mpedi Magosi highlighted the necessity of transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy systems due to climate change pressures.
The region faces challenges including rising electricity demand, constrained generation capacity, and reliance on hydropower. The SADC Ministers have expedited the framework's completion for approval. UNECA's Eunice Kamwendo emphasized the need for a strong regional framework to address infrastructure challenges and attract investment while ensuring a low-carbon, inclusive transition.
