Saica Group Launches Biomass Boiler at Nogent-sur-Seine to Enhance Sustainability
Saica Group has invested €86 million in a new biomass boiler at its Nogent-sur-Seine site, aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions. This facility is expected to lead to an 89% decrease in natural gas consumption and a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Saica Group's new biomass boiler at Nogent-sur-Seine, operational in May 2026, represents an €86 million investment. Funded in part by €14.99 million from the French Government under the Plan de Relance, it replaces natural gas boilers and is designed to produce 300 GWh/year, covering 90% of the mill's steam needs.
The facility will cut annual fossil fuel consumption by 30 million Nm³, resulting in around 50,000 tons of avoided CO₂ emissions. Additionally, the project will recover over 97% of papermaking by-products and generate approximately 40 indirect jobs. This initiative underscores Saica's commitment to a circular economy and local resource utilization, enhancing regional economic development.
