Saline Township Enacts One-Year Industrial Moratorium Amid Data Center Development
Saline Township has approved a one-year moratorium on industrial development to reassess zoning regulations while the Barn data center project proceeds. The moratorium does not affect renewable energy initiatives and is intended to manage future large-scale developments.

On June 10, Saline Township officials enacted a one-year moratorium on industrial development to refine zoning regulations, explicitly excluding renewable energy projects. The Barn data center is progressing, with most necessary permits from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy already secured, though reviews for wastewater and water treatment plants are ongoing.
Township personnel are actively monitoring the site for compliance issues, including noise and truck route violations. Additionally, a five-member committee has been formed to evaluate farmland preservation efforts, reflecting a broader focus on sustainable development. This moratorium indicates a shift toward regulatory oversight as the township prepares for future projects.
