Sampath Bank Launches Material Recovery Facility in Dickwella
Sampath Bank has inaugurated a Material Recovery Facility in Batheegama, Dickwella, focusing on ocean plastic reduction. This initiative aims to enhance waste management systems and empower local communities, particularly women, in Sri Lanka.

Sampath Bank PLC has officially opened a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Batheegama, Dickwella, as part of its 'A Breath to the Ocean' initiative. The facility is designed to address the waste management gaps along Sri Lanka's southern coastline in collaboration with Neptune Recyclers and the Sobakantha Foundation.
The project emphasizes intercepting plastic waste before it can harm marine ecosystems. Women, particularly 384 trained individuals, are at the core of this initiative, gaining income opportunities while contributing to environmental conservation. This shift towards community ownership may enhance local sustainability efforts and support a circular economy in the region.
