Samsung Heavy Industries and Musterian Corporation to Develop Floating Data Centers
Samsung Heavy Industries has partnered with Musterian Corporation to create floating data centers to meet AI computing demand. This collaboration aims to enable infrastructure deployment in areas with limited land resources and connection challenges.

Samsung Heavy Industries and Musterian Corporation (M3) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop hyper-scale floating data centers (FDCs). M3 will handle site selection, tenant engagement, and funding, while Samsung provides naval engineering and large-scale construction expertise.
The floating data centers will be located near existing power plants, utilizing underutilized energy capacity and coastal terminals to facilitate energy supply and cooling. However, economic viability is situational, influenced by capital investment needs and operational costs. The complexity of cabling and energy efficiency strategies will determine the success of these niche projects, particularly in regions where water proximity is abundant but land is scarce, such as around Singapore and Japan.
