Samsung Warns of Intensifying Global Memory Chip Shortage
Samsung anticipates worsening global memory chip shortages through at least 2028, driven by AI demand. The company's strategic long-term contracts with clients are reshaping production planning.

Samsung projects that the global shortage of memory chips will deepen from 2027 to 2028. Representing about one-third of global RAM production, Samsung notes significant demand from AI companies securing long-term contracts, impacting its production strategy.
While semiconductor profits increase, higher component costs are squeezing margins in Samsung's mobile and TV sectors, prompting price hikes for Galaxy phones and tablets. Other manufacturers like Apple and Nvidia are also raising prices, leading to potential consumer cost increases for electronics. This shift in focus towards AI datacenters over consumer products indicates prolonged price inflation in the electronics market.
