San Luis Obispo County Initiates Feasibility Study for Desalination Project
San Luis Obispo County is assessing the viability of a desalination project through a funded feasibility study. This initiative aims to address the region's water supply challenges amid recurring droughts.

The County of San Luis Obispo is conducting a feasibility study for a desalination project, supported by a WaterSMART grant from the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR). The project encompasses five phases focused on flood control and water conservation.
County officials emphasize the need to prepare for future water supply challenges, as reliance on rainfall has proven insufficient. A community meeting was held to discuss plans, with another scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Ramona Garden Park Center. The outcome of this study will determine the project's progression and site selection, potentially impacting local water resource management.
