Sandisk Unifies SSD Portfolio with SANDISK Optimus, Phasing Out WD_Black and WD Blue Brands

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

At CES 2026, Sandisk announced a major reorganization of its internal SSD portfolio, phasing out the WD_Black and WD Blue brands in favor of a unified brand: SANDISK Optimus. This transition does not introduce new SSD technology but aims to enhance brand clarity and positioning under the Sandisk name for flash storage solutions across PCs, workstations, and high-performance systems.

Sandisk is shifting to a more readable segmentation based on clear performance levels associated with its brand. The new SANDISK Optimus line will directly replace the previous WD lines and will maintain compatibility with existing NVMe interfaces and performance levels.

A coexistence phase between the old and new brands is planned for the first half of 2026. This change also clarifies Western Digital's focus on hard disk drives (HDD) and high-capacity storage solutions for data centers and enterprise environments.
