Sarbananda Sonowal Launches ₹1,500 Crore Projects at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated ₹1,500 crore worth of projects at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin, aimed at upgrading infrastructure and setting up clean energy initiatives. Key projects include a maritime heritage museum, a wind farm, a green hydrogen facility, and an anti-drone system. These initiatives are expected to enhance the port's role as a major transshipment hub, lower logistics costs, and stimulate regional economic growth.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched ₹1,500 crore projects at V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin, to enhance infrastructure and promote clean energy. The investments aim to establish the port as a key transshipment hub, improving regional and international connectivity.
Key initiatives include a maritime heritage museum, a 8 MW wind farm, a 2 MW green hydrogen facility, and an anti-drone system for security. The projects will lower logistics costs and support industrial growth in Tuticorin and surrounding areas. Cargo handling at the port increased by 6% to 35.97 million tonnes from April 2025 to January 2026.
