Sarnia Approves $8.7M for Infrastructure and Flood Mitigation Projects
Sarnia's city council has approved approximately $8.7 million for four major road reconstruction projects and a pump station upgrade. These initiatives aim to enhance road conditions, reduce sewer flooding risks, and minimize pollution in local waterways.

Sarnia city council has allocated $8.7 million for infrastructure improvements, aimed at road reconstruction and flood mitigation. Projects include major road work on Johnston and Queen Street ($1.5 million), Kathleen Avenue ($2.6 million), Copland Road ($1.87 million), and McGregor Sideroad ($744,191), alongside a $1.83 million upgrade to the Talfourd pump station to increase wastewater capacity by 50%.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to address sewer backups and pollution in the St. Clair River. Despite these enhancements, the risk of flooding remains, highlighting the need for continued infrastructure investments and the disconnection of sump pumps from sanitary sewers to further reduce stormwater inflow.
