SBI Launches CHAKRA Initiative to Fund ₹100 Trillion in Sunrise Sectors Over Five Years
The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced the CHAKRA initiative to finance ₹100 trillion in eight sunrise sectors, including renewable energy and semiconductors, over the next five years. SBI Chairman CS Setty emphasized the need for innovative financing structures, targeting a debt opportunity of ₹20-22 trillion and involving partnerships with 21 financial institutions. The initiative aims to enhance project bankability and align with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision by mobilizing substantial corporate cash reserves.

SBI Chairman CS Setty highlighted a debt opportunity of ₹20-22 lakh crore, emphasizing the need for innovative financing structures beyond traditional bank loans.
The initiative will focus on risk assessment, patient capital, and collaborative financing frameworks, involving partnerships with 21 financial institutions, including international banks like MUFG and SMBC. CHAKRA aims to enhance project bankability and support India's development goals, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The initiative seeks to mobilize substantial corporate cash reserves, estimated at ₹13-14 lakh crore, towards these critical sectors.
