SBMA Launches E-Waste Recycling Initiative in Subic Bay Freeport
The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority has initiated an e-waste recycling program to enhance sustainability and promote a circular economy. This project is critical as e-waste represents one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally, necessitating effective management and recycling strategies.

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has launched the 'Closing the Loop on E-Waste' program in partnership with the Subic Bay Freeport Electronic Recyclers Association. This initiative aims to enhance sustainable waste management by recovering and recycling electronic and electrical wastes.
The program follows the biennial Recyclables Collection Event, which has collected approximately 88.3 metric tons of waste from electronic and electrical equipment. Daily waste generation in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone ranges from 60 to 65 metric tons, with recyclables constituting about 28%.
The SBMA encourages community involvement in waste segregation to optimize recycling efforts. Effective e-waste management is essential as it reduces environmental impact and supports the transition to a circular economy.
