Scatec and Aboitiz Power Launch 16 MW Battery System in the Philippines
Scatec ASA and Aboitiz Power's joint venture has commenced operations for the 16 MW Magat battery energy storage system. This project enhances the existing energy infrastructure and supports the Philippines' renewable energy goals.

The 16 MW Magat battery energy storage system (Magat BESS 2) is now operational, connected to the Magat hydro power plant. This facility aims to capitalize on the ancillary services reserves market, reflecting an increase in battery storage capacity to 40 MWh.
The existing 24 MW BESS has been generating revenues since its launch in 2024. With 120 MWh of additional capacity under construction, the project underscores the growing importance of ancillary services amid rising renewable energy integration in the Philippines. The venture is 50% owned by Scatec and Aboitiz Power, financed through debt linked to the hydro power plant.
