Scotland's Offshore Wind Potential at Risk Without Timely Decisions
Scotland's ScotWind initiative has facilitated 20 offshore wind projects, including 13 floating, with planned investments of £28.8 billion. Timely governmental decisions are crucial to capitalize on this momentum and secure jobs, contracts, and long-term economic growth.

The ScotWind scheme has enabled 20 offshore wind projects, with 13 being floating, and an anticipated investment of £28.8 billion in Scottish businesses. Muir Mhòr, located 63 kilometers off Aberdeenshire, is poised to become a leading floating offshore wind project, expected to power up to 1.2 million homes once operational.
Although it has secured onshore consent and awarded £18.4 million in contracts, including £7.96 million to Scottish suppliers, it awaits offshore consent. The urgency lies in making timely decisions to ensure Scotland remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global market for offshore wind. Delays risk diverting investment and skills to other countries, undermining Scotland’s potential to establish a strong economic presence in this industry.
