Scottish Government Allocates £3M for Mossmorran Workers Amid Offshore Wind Funding Cuts
The Scottish government has allocated £3 million to support workers at ExxonMobil's Mossmorran plant in Fife, which is closing and jeopardizing over 400 jobs, as part of a broader £9 million support package. Meanwhile, funding for offshore wind projects will drop significantly to £93 million in 2026-27, and additional investments include £15.6 million for hydrogen production and carbon capture at Grangemouth and £3 million for reskilling former oil and gas workers. Community climate action funding will also rise to £6 million to bolster local initiatives.

The Scottish government has committed up to £3 million to support workers at ExxonMobil's Mossmorran ethylene plant in Fife, which is set to close by February, risking over 400 jobs. This funding is part of a £9 million three-year support package.
In contrast, funding for offshore wind projects will decrease to £93 million in 2026-27 from £124.7 million in the previous year due to market demand. The budget also allocates £15.6 million for the Grangemouth refinery site to support hydrogen production and carbon capture initiatives.
Additionally, £15.1 million is designated for circular economy projects, reflecting a slight reduction from the prior budget. The government will fund 25,000 apprenticeships and has set aside £3 million for the Transition Training Fund for reskilling former oil and gas workers. Community climate action funding will increase to £6 million, supporting local climate initiatives.
